Top San Diego Automobile Museums

Are you a fan of first-class automobiles? So are we at San Diego Citi Airport Transportation which is why we put together a list of the best places in the city to see vintage 1800 carriages all the way to modern concept cars.

  • The San Diego Automotive Museum in Balboa Park is the city’s most popular collection of both old and new autos. Admission is free on Tuesdays and up to $8.50 the rest of the week. The nominal fee is well worth it because the museum is currently showing off Corvettes until the end of January. One of their seven permanent exhibits is appropriately named “show stoppers” because these 24 rare vehicles will definitely stop you in your tracks.
  • Deer Park Winery and Auto Museum in Escondido combines the best of two worlds: wine and wheels. Grab a glass of the award-winning Merlot port before you peruse through the three rooms of antique cars on display. The museum owners proudly feature everything from old 1800 carriages to the high powered muscle cars of the 70s. Pack a picnic and make a day out of your trip to this secluded gem.
  • Evans Garage, secretly located near the Lodge at Torrey Pines, is only accessible to hotel VIP and corporate guests. Why? Because both the private museum and the lodge are owned and operated by the Evans family. If you ever get the chance to peek inside you might find some prized Lincoln Town cars, a more antique version of the ones used now for San Diego airport shuttles.
  • The San Diego Collection off El Cajon Blvd. was made for vintage car enthusiasts. They currently have 37 cars on their grounds and you might be happy to know that all but 8-10 of them are up for sale!  For a pretty penny you can drive home a 1965 candy-apple red Porsche or a Rolls Royce Phantom III.  Best of all, there’s no charge just to look around.
  • The J.A. Cooley Museum, located at the corner of El Cajon Blvd. and Park Blvd., is easy to miss but it’d be a shame if you did. The 24 well preserved automobiles, dating from 1886 to 1993, are a permanent feature but visitors need to jump on the opportunity to see the first ever Mercedes Benz and the futuristic Buick XP 2000 while they’re in San Diego.
