Governor’s Veto against Opening Carpool Lanes After Hours

The recent decision by California Governor Jerry Brown to continue to prohibit solo drivers from using car pool lanes during non-peak traffic hours presents challenges not just for Los Angeles County roads, but for the vast majority of motorists and travelers throughout Southern California.

Out of town corporate travelers with meetings in Southern California are one group that is greatly affected by the decision. Unfamiliar with the roads, many do not understand how long it can take to commute through Los Angeles County or from neighboring San Diego, a common business commuter route. With the veto against opening carpool lanes after hours, those traveling solo are sure to encounter unexpected delays once they face time consuming lane restrictions throughout the area.

For companies running private transportation services in San Diego, the decision does not have as much impact as it does for single riders or commuters. While transit times for those traveling from San Diego to Los Angeles may result in higher per-mile costs for travelers due to unavoidable traffic, companies like Citi Transportation offset these costs by offering their clients flat-rate fees. As a result, those who need to travel out of LAX, John Wayne or Long Beach Airport from San Diego can enjoy transportation, knowing exactly how much their ride is going to cost before they’ve even left.

Unlike Los Angeles, San Diego is planning to create a vast network of carpool lanes called express lanes to offset congestion throughout the day. Accommodating those qualifying for car pool and select clean air vehicles, these lanes will also be open to solo drivers who are willing to pay a toll. The addition of these lanes will help facilitate traffic throughout the county, for both residents and visitors.

At Citi Transportation, we’re always interested in news surrounding how we can get our clients to their destinations as quickly and safely as possible. While travel to Los Angeles may still involve traffic, we understand the potential delays and schedule transportation to the Los Angeles County accordingly. With us, you can always count on reliable and prompt transportation.
